Condensate pipe perished - dangerous?

Hello,
The condensate pipe on my Baxi Duotec 28 is perished and split. While I can find a plumber who can order a new part and get it fitted, I could manage by catching the condensate and funnelling it into the portion of the condensate pipe that is not perished. My concern is that flue gasses might also be coming down the condensate pipe but escaping into my kitchen, which is not acceptable even for a few hours.
My boiler is currently shut down until I know if I have a safety problem.
Is the condensate pipe that feeds into the top of the condensate trap supposed to be gas-tight to prevent flue gasses entering the house?
Just to re-iterate - I will be getting a qualified engineer to do a proper fix. The question is just whether things are dangerous until they get here.
thanks very much for your advice.
Ben
