Driverless EV taxis will be the future of suburban and rural public transport I am certain of it. Buses aren't practical and taxis too expensive for many.

I was surprised that they picked Jaguar as the host vehicle. They must have got a good deal, as most manufacturers are sitting on stocks of unsold EVs. The technology looks added, in the main. It reminded me of a Johnny Cab in Total Recall. Perfect for London when they figure out how to navigate the yellow box junctions. Uber drivers will not be happy.

dunno aboot that like.. however taxis in general... in my town there was a couple of taxi companies. super reliable. literally ring a taxi and within minutes it would arrive unless it was say christmas day or new year. then there was usually a little bit of a wait.
all of them taken over and merged. now its app based and loads of foreign drivers... some of them you have to guide around the town ffs
theyve also started doing shady stuff to alter prices or put the meter on as soon as one person gets in the car.

We have only ever had a few Taxi co round here. Our favourite has an app, its good because it tells you how far the taxi is, and its registration, also you can pay by card before it arrives (Since they already know where you want to go)
If you watch the YT video, you will see it is NOT new, they have had driverless taxis in San Francisco for well over a year, so to them its not new. I should have thought if it can see a person, then it can see a yellow box junction. Never had a taxi in the USA but I thought the fare was on the high side, but then it does have to make money.
