Marley plastic hip apex-cap (angle)

Post by ffoxy99 »

I come across these caps a lot working on roofs and they regularly flying off in high winds due to the fitters not following the fitting-instructions properly or the fact that they are just pretty rubbish

If the customer finds it in the garden you can usually put it back on, assuming the straps and gaskets aren't also missing or broken.

They are surprisingly expensive to buy new - if you can find them in stock locally and mail-order is a bit tricky as it's £120 delivery from Roofing Superstore - so nearly £200 for one cap.

Anyway if you have to get a new one you need to be absolutely sure you are getting the right angle as it's an expensive mistake if you end up with the wrong one. There are 9 options (3 angles in 3 different colours)

I made a carboard template for a missing one the other day and measured it when I got home to be 30 degrees

However the hips of the roof aren't the same angle as the face of the roof. They are a good bit shallower.

So, when ordering the cap, should I be going with the angle of the roof or the angle of the hip? :dunno:

Ask where you are getting it from which angle to use, they make/supply it, none of us on the forum do.
Above are my opinions Below is my signature.

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.
