Bathroom nightmare

Post by NS34 »

Hi,

We have had ongoing issues with the bathroom paint peeling off the ceiling and walls. I recently spent quite a bit of time redoing it all and 3 weeks after finishing the job, the paint cracked everywhere. I can’t make sense of it.

What I did:

Remove all the paint peeling off, sanded the edges, applied Zinsser peel stop, applied toutpret fine filler, applied zinsser bin, painted with Zinsser perma white. No use of the bathroom during the work and curing time were respected.

Any suggestions?

It looks like a classic case of no mist coat on new plaster. Do you know the history of previous decoration?

No, I don’t know what was done before unfortunately. What needs doing then? Start all over again?

I am not an expert but I think would be inclined to go over with a steam wallpaper stripper. My idea is that the steam and heat from the stripper may delaminate the poor substrate allowing you to scrape it back, paint that does not come off would be proved well fixed. At least then you can go from a sound surface.
