New apartment door that meets new building regulations

Post by Quizzer123 »

Hi, my apartment needs a new front door according to the building management company. Nothing wrong with the door except it has a spy hole which apparently they tell me is against the new rules brought out after the Grenfeld fire. Also, there is a slight gap between the door and the frame, which is also not allowed now.
Anyone know where I can get a new one that would pass the new regs? Preferably have it fitted and the old one taken away.
Thanks for any help

I'd assume it would need to be an half hour fire door at least , you'd need to check to see what's required in your case but either way it'll be something standard.. If there is a Howdens or Magnet near you they'll have them. Any local carpenter/joiner handyman should be able to fit it , they'd more than likely supply door and anything else required ..I'm not going to give a figure with regards to cost , that can vary with regions , or even if your apartment is on the 17th floor as opposed to the ground floor.

i would do some research as building regulations are not normally retrospective so may not be required if an old door ??
but iff you feel there would be greater safety then yes do it but iff you dont fancy the extra cost look at other solutions like intumescent door strip

Have a read of this (see 6.5) https://www.gov.uk/government/publicati ... r-guidance You say the building management mentioned about a spyhole but what about letterboxes?
