Post by Sparky70 »

Hi, I've never had to replace felt on a shed roof before but there is water evidence on the roof plywood in side the shed, which is the best quality roof material to use so it lasts ? And also how easy is it do carry out ? many thanks

Shed felt replacement

I did mine in the autumn as a section had been ripped off by winds. I spent a bit of time cutting up some roof battens and fixing these to the underside of the roof edges to give me a place to nail the felt on to. You can buy felt in varying densities that are rated to last different numbers of years. I used five five-year rated felt as I was covering over the original felt, which was mainly sound, it would give a double thickness. It was a bit of a faff on my own and I ripped one new length trying to place it and had to buy another roll. I would say it a job best done double-handed if you have someone who would help. Certainly this is a job best done in spring or summer and you could put a temporary plastic sheet over to weatherproof the roof depending on how exposed to wind it is.

Shed felt replacement

I replaced our lent shed roof with galvanised panels as we have the issue with small branches from trees damaging the existing roof. Sure it wasn’t cheap but it’ll now last a very long time
