Paramount partition or thin metal stud

Post by oz0707 »

Viewed another place yesterday built around 2010. Taylor Wimpey. 75mm thick overall partitions. Would you say this is paramount or a thin studwork? The door frames don't have glazing above so that implies studwork? For 75mm what would it be though 50mm metal with 9.5mm board and skim?

Without cutting a hole it's not going to be entirely certain but there are a few things that might help with a guess. If you could take off a plug or light switch you may be able to see something. A rare earth magnet might pick up metal studs and I've found paramount board sounds less hollow than studding when tapped.

As a general point these partition walls are only an issue if you want to hang something like a TV on it. Most folk would not even think about it, it is only when you know construction that you get a bit wary.

I suppose you are right. Average punter wouldn't even think about it. Ignorance is bliss as they say
