2nd sky box ??

Hi all
we have got sky + in living room and a cable runs from this sky + box to the conservatory via the rf2 socket and with a sky link works well.
Question would it be possible to get the old sky box to work in the bedroom ? the LNB has 2 connectors both going to the sky + box in the living room.
The sky installer said he could get the old box to work in the bedroom for £70 but he didnt say how so there must be a way to do it somehow ???

My guess is that if you tried to install it in your bedroom, you would only get the freeview channels. Sky must broadcast the signal to your old Sky box for it to be able to receive anything other than the freeview channels.
Sky is a one-way thing. The only time it's two-way is if you are dialed up through the box's internal modem. Each month, Sky broadcast a signal to your box telling it what channels you are subscribed to, if it doesn't receive that signal, then you should lose all of the channels you normally pay for as the subscription has not been renewed. I do believe that this would work if you had cable installed, but I'm not 100% sure.

Yes I realise that if i could get it to work it would only be for the freeview channels it just seems a shame it will sit gathering dust when it could possibly be used in another room ??

I don't see any reason why not, but I'm not a Sky Engineer. I still have an old Sky box which I use to watch FreeView channels on, purely because my loft aerial is knackered, and the picture/sounds sucks when we get bad weather. I don't see why you shouldn't be able to do this, even if you do have another Sky box. In theory, it's no different than two computers sharing an Internet connection. One doesn't affect the other.

Have decided its not worth the effort will just get a freeview box and plug this into existing tv aerial no messing with wires !.

FreeSat is meant to have a load more channels, so IF you are still thinking about this and don't want to muck around running cables (and I don't blame you!) you could try having this 2nd box in the sitting room still where the Sat cable comes in and using a wireless sender for the signal and remote.
May be worth a go to get a sender from Currys who wheover and if it doesn;t work as you want, take it back and you only wasted a bit of time
