I always think that lasers on saws are a bit of a gimmick to be honest. If you draw a pencil line on the wood and then align it with the blade then you can't go far wrong

Looks like you need the blade to stop in the right place to get the line....?

Im with Chez, just mark, and cut. Lasers seem to be popular on toys from diy shops.

exactly, very few professional tools have lasers on them, which would lead me to believe that they are a waste of time and just a gimmick to convince DIYers that the tool will have "laser accuracy"

Laser levels are often a waste of time.

I once got one from screwfix and it was self levelling, the only thing was that it wasn't and you had to adjust two screws. I was putting up some kitchen cupboards and so thought I would use it to save time. It took much longer and it would of been much easier with a measure, spirit level and marker.

The professional models are probably useful when doing massive rooms.

I have one on my ryobi saw and its great. Its makes it easier as you dont need to draw a line, just a mark a spot with the pencil and line it up with the laser, saving time. Its biggest weakness if you do a lot of cuts it gets covered in dust so you cannot see the line until you clean it off.

I dont mark a full line, just a pointer in the middle of the wood, line a few teeth up on that where they touch the timber.
Do draw them on angled cuts though.

Like a lot of people I draw a full line including around the edge, just to check the blade is still cutting square.
Because I forget to check before I use
