Can anyone give me the definitive answers?

Filling gaps between floorboards - how do I match the colour to the finished boards? I'm thinking of using sawdust mixed with filler/PVA but do I stain the sawdust first? Otherwise surely its going to remain the same colour as the unfinished boards??

What is the best method of finishing? wax or water based finish/varnish. Its for a living room floor.

All advice very gratefully received, thanks!

Dont use pva with sawdust

There are products from wood flooring suppliers that you mix with
the sawdust from the last sanding that are stainable

I prefer varnish finish as it is less maintenance (prime and 2 top coats)

Thanks for the advice.

Looked everywhere for a filler marked as suitable for filling gaps between floorboards ... no joy! So have gone for a general purpose (stainable) wood filler which we are going to try mixing with sawdust and then varnish over the top.

Wish me luck!
