quiet pull cord switch

Post by Stella »

Hi,

We currently have guests staying over and their kids keep awakening when someone enters the bathroom, as the pull cord switch is noisy.

Can I spray it with something to make it quieter or can you buy quiet pull cord switches?

Thanks

temporary measure install a low energy bulb leave on from bed time to daylight for around 10p a week [20w x50hrs burn time = 1 unit = 8 pence]

spraying may help but its probably worn out !!!!!!

Me get merry, never, well only very rarely , i am t total, nearest i get is a shandy most days. lol There is not such a thing as a quiet pullcord i am afraid, different manafacturers pullcords are quieter or noisier dependant upon how well or badly they are made. You can now buy a pull cord dimmer, which i think would be quieter as it only relies on making a contact to latch the inside mechanism, so would not clunk as in the normal type.

Hope this helps

Nick
If it isnt broke dont bloody touch it until it bloody well is and if it is broke then make drawing of the connections before you remove the broken one and replace with a new one LoL

I once saw a post on screwfix, where someone was having this problem and they over come it by locating the switch in the loft, then they used a blank metal plate on the bathroom ceiling with an hole in the centre for the pull cord to pass through.

It could of been B-A-S or someone with their username beginning with B.

I have the same problem, not with kids but the switch is very loud at night/when the house is quiet. I bought a new one that said it was quiet but wasn't. I think part of the problem is my ceiling doesn't absorb any sound but there doesn't seem to be a silent pull switch available. I don't understand why. I asked MK/Honeywell and they said "All of our pull switches make the same amount of noise during activation."

I've put an ordinary lightswitch just outside the bog door.

No, no-one's switched it off whilst I've been in there - they wouldn't dare.
