ADVICE NEEDED - FLOORBOARD PREPARATION

Post by fat_geo »

hi,
i am looking to remove the carpet in my bathroom (very small room) and paint the floorboards underneath. this is the first time i have done this!

basically - i am looking for a semi foolproof guide to what i need to do in this - i know the very high level requirements. but would appreciate some advise as to a step by step guide.

i have had a look at the floorboards and there are some gaps (up to about 1cm) mainly behind the toilet. what is the best way to deal with these?

do i need to put some filler between all other boards?

what products would be recommended for this?

do i need to varish or will a floor paint be enough?

any help greatly apprecaited!!

thanks
George

Hi George

Personally I wouldn't recommend putting filler in between your floorboards because a) you'll need alot of filler and b) over time it will crack and fall between the floor leaving you right back at square one.

As far as paint or varnish goes, it really depends on how you want it to look when its finished. If you opt for varnish then it will probably need sanding thoroughly to get a good finish. Whatever product you choose you will be better off getting something that is recommended for floors as this will be harder wearing.
