Escort locks

Post by 54aardvark »

M reg 1600 escort, passenger door & boot locks knackered and drivers door on the way out.

Thinking of doing the Scrapper, any tips on fitting them, bit concerned about the electrics and the possibility of tripping the alarm and possibly the engine immobiliser.

Any thoughts gratefully received - before I lock myself out!

I'm guessing it has central locking?

Can you not get the locks wired to the alarm so that the car unlocks/locks with the alarm key fob?

The locks are only connected to the central locking motors by a linkage
so electrics is not a problem

Locks are held in place by clip so easy enough to change just a pain
removing panels and handles

You wont be able to change the ignition lock as it is key coded to the ECU
and alarm system, not sure but if you do then l think you have to set
about disconecting wires

Full set of locks from Fords, cost about £100

They do come up on fleabay now and again

So me being a tight arse would go down the breakers

You being a bonnie lad will probably do the same
There would be less trouble in the world
if l had not had six daughters

Thanks for all that, aye, scrappy is the first port of call for Mr Grippy!

Ignition is fine as is the rest of the car apart from looking like a mobile skip hope to get at least another couple of years out of it.
