Fire Door & Frame - new hassle

Post by tonyenjoyd »

Hi all,

Further to my previous post, does enyone know the spec required for a fire door casing.

2 months ago I bought a casing from Wickes with advice on which one to buy to go with the door I was to buy later. The builder then fitted it and build a thermalite wall around.
last week I bought a 30 min fire door from Wickes as my previous spec (78x30) , Marked and cut the hinges on both then fitted to the door.
I then took the door to the frame.....43mm door and a 37mm rebate!!!!!

I contacted Wickes who fobbed me off and said I needed a different frame.
I went in and they only had a basic casing and you add the stop lats after fitting - I thought this was not to building regs and then asked the manager about their frames and fire retardaning. "Oh" he said, "None of these are fire rated so really are no good - you could try Maxwells"!!

maxwells are quoting me over £100

What do I have to fit to keep Building Control happy? (Kitchen extended to take part of garage).

Can I rout out the extra 6mm and coat the frame with a fire retardant material?

Clutching at straws?

Many thanks in anticipation

Tony

fire door frames are always to suit 44mm door. you can have doorframes with intumescent seal or fire and smoke seal. you can pick them up from must good timber/builder yards.
