Adhesive for Tiling inside a fireplace

Hi I am fitting a woodburning stove, and sadly the bricks inside the chimney are in an awful state (had hoped to clean them up but they are a mixture of allsorts, plus holes I have had to patch), cannot plaster and paint due to heat - plaster will crack - so thought we would tile it - and see a lot of this in fireplaces, was wondering if anyone could recommend a tiling adhesive? Is the amount of heat generated likely to be a problem?
