im going to do a small job in replacing a broken panic bar (latch type) ive never fitted one for years. im wondering of the kit comes with a bar i can cut to the correct length? i assume it will do to accomodate differing door widths but im not entirely sure. im going to get one from screwfix as they sell the same make as is existing.
one other thing. the existing unit is fitted badly. can i either raise or lower it by a few inches to get to good timber on the frame where it will latch into? i assume lower would probably be better for dissabled laws etc

The bars are too long normally so you can cut to length. When you say move it up or down i take it is the bar with a latch and not the top and bottom shoot bolts ? You can move it up a bit if you like but obviously not too high.
Just make sure you get the right product.If its a place the public will have access to then you needsomething that is bs en 1125 rated or for places where people are familiar with the equipment like in the back of an office you need bs en 179. You cannot use these in public places.
Basically most bars are en1125 (check first) and paddle type devices are en 179.
Fitting a steel gate with a bar on monday so can post some pics if you like ?
