Hi All
im having to rip out the bathroom and start from scratch,ie,new floor, bathroom suite the lights the works,is there a certain tile adhesive i have to use on new chipboard floor and do i treat the chiopboard with anything before i start.I have also taken the existing tiles off the studwork walls and have adhesive and in most parts what appears to be rough brown cardboard on the walls, will i have to replace from the studwork up with new plasterboard or do i treat this with something after removing the rest of the adhesive , the entire walls are to be retiled with glass blanco and glass acido tiles from porselanosa which measure 446mm x 336mm,i dont want them falling off the walls just as i finish, there will be a shower over the bath so will there be a certain type of adhesive and grout i have to use to avoid mould etc.your expertise and advice would be very welcome. ::b

No expert here but I'd treat the chipboard with a coat of ply . Chipboard is probably the worst you could use on the floor especially in a bathroom.

As for the walls, you may be best using aquapanel, especially where the shower is and if the tiles are heavy for the rest of the room.

I'm sure a pro tiler will give you a more expert advice :thumbright:

Chipboard floors are not ideal in older properties. In newer properties they are supposed to be braced more often and so as long as they are screwed down at regular intervals it is acceptable, according to many of the flexible adhesive manufacturers.

Plywood is much better and so if you are ripping up the old chipboard then it would be much better if you replaced it with with 25mm WBP plywood fixing noggins where boards join across joists.

Other alternatives can be seen here, depending on what types of tiles you will be using-

The walls sound dodgy and so I'm with Skiking- remove what is on there now and replace with aquapanel or tile backer board.

Where the shower area is it would be advisable to tank the area, like this-

The above pages have recommendations for adhesive and grout etc.
