Sika T55 wood flooring adhesive.

Post by rowntree20 »

I was going to buy Sika T55 from Topps Tiles to glue some oak flooring to my concrete base but I have been told on another site that this product is hazardous and can damage your health. According to a PDF from the manufacturer the product also has narcotic effects. does anyone have any experience of this product and is it true that all similar polyurethane products are dangerous as on further investigtion I see they all contain isosyanates which can cause cancer.

Does anyone have any experience of MS Polymer based glues as I have been advised that these are mush safer and easier to use than polyurethanes although they might be a bit more expensive.
thanks

our company used to use Sika adhesives as well as other similar makes. the products are not particulary easy to use and Sika made T55 which is easier to spread. the problem is if you get the product on the floor you usually end up having to sand it off and with it, the oil or lacquer that was factory applied. this was a major problem.

The health issues were also part of the decision to use MS polymer products as we do not need to worry about the damaging effect these have on the lungs not to mention the possible carciogenic efects of the isocyanates that are in polyurethane products.

The MS Products give you everything the polyurethane ones do and more as they are clean and really easy to work with. they also don't have the unwanted risk of side effects from having your face stuck over a pot of potential poison.

If necessary pay more but in our experience you can buy Lecol MS250 or Rewmar MS polymer for the same or even less than the old technology poly products.
