Look online, and it appears they always assume you have hit it with something to cause the damage, and therefor dont cover it under guarantee and its not worth fixing, as it costs more than the tv

Only possible plus point is we got it out of john lewis, and they always bend over backwards to help............here's hoping

Thats unbeleviable for that to happen after only 8 months.
For the price you paid for it as well isn't cheap for a 32inch. It must be a top notch model. It isnt the LE32A558P model is it?.

Some manufacturers are selling 40 inch LCD for that price.

It was pricematched at the time to the cheapest i could find it

i got a sony bracia 40 lcd £650 at tesco meant to be £750 but scanned up at 650, i walk past the front room the other day and my son is putting stickers all over it!!!

It should have the normal guarentee for the first 12 months, all electrical stuff has, its down to the consumer to pay for the rip off extended warrenties.

Get onto the store where you bought it, and demand a replacement.

John Lewis don't always bend over backwards but are usually good (had a bad experience with them recently with a LCD package)

If you get it sorted try a place called Sound and Vision in Bolton for a replacement (if you get a refund). I got a Panasonic 37" + DVD Recorder and HDD + stand for £400 cheaper than the exact same from JL

Hi again feva, I think you mean a 'sony bravia' (spelling might be wrong), we got the same one, not at tesco's but at currys, like you, we got it knocked down.
Our last telly blew up a week before last Xmas.

why are you worried about the gaurentee!!!!!

take it back to where you got it from and get a replacement
tell them its broken and needs fixing

and when the go on about the gautentee tell them you are claiming under the sale of goods act and it must be fit for purpose [your statutory rights]

remember the disclaimer with any gtee "does not affect your statutory rights"


ooohhh and if it was an accident thats what home contents insurance is for

I would be lost if my plasma was to finish.


I have had it for nearly 5 years now and never had any problems.

Although it cost me an arm and a leg I purchased it from Richer sounds due to it being 300 cheaper than anywhere else.

from what i can see online, they presume its been damaged (ie not their fault) when glass cracks, so it isnt a warranty issue. Will see on monday. My house insurance doesnt cover accidental damage

Will look at it, and then go to John Lewis, as they pricematch any shop, as long as its in stock, and they also give you a free 5 year gaurantee as well. Thats what i did with this one......it was stickered at £800 or so, but comet had just reduced it to £649, so they matched, but also got the 5 year warranty.

This was the issue with JL...they wouldn't price match against Richer Sounds then Richer Sounds wouldn't price match against Sound and Vison - it was a long but fruitful day

If i remember correctly, i could get the tv online for £30 odd cheaper, hardly worth the trouble when we I just picked it up same day.

did the usual to check prices.........ebay, kelkoo, google......then shops

JL won't price match against the web only bricks and mortar companies although they do renege on this when the discount is too much as did Richer Sounds. I even got a free 5yr guarantee with Sound and Vision - and no I don't work for them

yes, its 'proper shops'.........I would presume within a certain mileage of shop?

Handyman - from the way you typed that, if it broke due to physical damage, I would have thought that the 'protective plasticy cover' would be marked/damaged as well. Assuming it is not, tell John Lewis what happened and ask them to replace/repair it and if they say - quite fairly - it could have been accidental damage, ask them to come out to examine it. (don't take it in yourself as you may end up marking the cover when you take it in )
