Hi everyone,

I've had a DIY disaster in my rented flat - had a small disposable barbeque today, it wasn't even very hot - but it has melted the bitumen on the balcony.

I now have an area about 25" by 12" that is freshly melted and raised above the rest of the balcony.

Can anyone suggest an easy way to level this off? Without redoing the whole area, and as cheaply as possible.

Ideally I'd like to keep my deposit - and not to lose it over a £1 barbeque...

what did you have the bbq sat on !!!

roofing felt will soften on a very hot sunny day thats why they are sprinkled with white stones to deflect and disperse the heat

Its not normal to have felt on a balcony (soft and green/grey colour)
Are you sure its not asphelt (hard and black/grey colour)

Any chance of a picture

If its felt theres not much that can be done accept cut out the damaged
area and put a patch over the top, or refelt the whole area

If its asphelt you could make yourself a small wooden float, warm the asphelt up just enough so you can work it back into shape, (not melt or
burn it) when level shake a little sand over the top and work it into the
surface

Bet you cant guess what l would suggest you warm it up with
