Replacing Floorboards With Something Other Than Floorboards

Hi all,
Apologies for repeating myself here for anyone that has seen my other threads on other issues elsewhere but, I've just had a new combi boiler installed and as such have lost the feeder tank in the loft and associated hot water storage tank in the spare bedroom that I am now decorating into a nursery for my 2nd child (due in 7 weeks
).
Where the old hot water storage tank was located and all of its related pipework, shower pump etc etc the floorboards in the room have all been cut away in order to access all of the stuff (all of this was hidden behind previous built-in cupboards that I have subsequently ripped out). Now that I have removed all of that crap and this will now be usuable floor space in the bedroom, I need to replace the floorboards in that area (hole size approx 300mm wide by 1400mm long).
Question I have is do I need to go and get about 10 or 12 pieces of floorboard all 300mm long and secure all of them or can I get away with just getting a bit of timber the same thickness cut to the required size and screw that down in place of the missing floorboard pieces...? Size of the piece of wood required is not that large that could cause it to fail under usual load anyway, right..?
To clarify, the long sides will run left to right along the joists for their full length leaving the 250mm of the centre of the board unsupported for its entire length excluding where it starts and finishes if that makes any sense...
Or, am I being silly and should just replace with lots of pieces of floorboard....?
