Anyone know a good source of ply?

Post by Monkey Wrench »

I'm building a heavy duty wooden shed for storing motorcycles, DIY and gardening tools. Any suggestions for the most flooring material? I was wondering about 25mm ply but this won't be cheap (I'll need 4 sheets!). Was also wondering about what to may on top of the ply.

Where is a good source of ply? Seen some good prices on line and then the delivery charge makes it very expensive. Local timber merchant is expensive for ply.

The shed roof also needs a suitable sheet material - 12mm ply or osb? Is this a little thin? What about 18mm? Any suggestions are much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

my shed has 18mm ply floor and roof at 2ft centres

i would suggest that your floor would be ok at 2ft x18mm plus a ramped area with additional 12mm ply on top from the door to the standing area for your bike and other oily machines

this will give you flexibility and when the "stand "area gets deep gouges from the lawnmore or oil from bike you can unscrew the the ramped board and replace with a new bit

i chose 18mm for floor and roof because 9 sheets coverd floor and roof of a 12x10ft shed with no waste[1/4 sheet] but i was shoked that the ply cost more than the pressure treated txg shiplap

Part of the reason ply is so expensive is due to the tsunami a while back.It wiped out a lot sources of ply.Fencing panels were affected too if i remember rightly.Until the stock is replenished it will probably be a bit dearer than it needs to be but if its like oil it will go up but rarely drop as it should
