Fireworks

Post by DougJones »

Here we are just past the middle of October, 11-30pm with Fireworks going off all over the place!
Dogs starting to get up tight, and will get worse as we get nearer 5th Nov.
How is it that people can wander the streets late at night letting off fireworks, Police don't give a sh*t and we have to put up with it. ::b
Seems that people still have money to "burn" as well as drinking themselves silly, then complain if the get hurt through the abuse of drink or misuse of explosives (Fireworks)
Hope they all get what they deserve with no sympathy from me!

As Guy Fawkes night is a left-over from days when religious intolerance was a matter life or death, it is high time it was relegated to the dustbin of History.
I started out with nothing, I still have most of it.

Totally agree Mooncat. Most people don't even know who guy fawkes was.

There is no reason why the 5th of November should still be on the calender.

Not to mention the amount of injuries or uneccessary fires that our crews have to attend to.

Fireworks are ok, but I am not sure of the need for the ones that just make loud noises - pointless
And so expensive too, much better going to an organised display instead of setting fire to a couple of hundred pound notes in your garden.
(whinging bugger, aren't I  - must be my age  )

When I lived in St Albans, I used to dread this time of year - be fireworks going off every night for about 6 weeks :angryfire:

Down 'ere in thar country, there seems to be fireworks only at very specific times - End of Regattas and Festivals and the weekend of GuyFawkes - of course, this year 5th Nov is Wednesday, so probably be displays weekend before AND after.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?"
She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

We are surrounded by chavs on the newates and we get the full blown Beirut scenario from the last week in October to the second week in January. I think organised displays are fine, we go to the local village one.

That top statement would of been okay back in the 1800's :-)

I used to run a public display every November, until I got too old to clear up the next day. (In years of doing it, no one ever helped to clear the field next day).

I was always tempted to hang a notice round Guy Fawkes's neck along the lines of "We burn Catholics" so no one should forget what's meant by remember, remember the 5th of November.

Anyway, the proximity to the American tradition of Halloween meant that that was kept out of the litany.

These days H&S has dropped its dead hand on the night and the bangs are mere puffs, there are no shells shooting from mortars and mines no longer fire jumping jacks around the neighbourhood.

Fireworks are an obsession over here. every village has it's own fireworks factory and they try to outdo each other during the summer festa season. every year there is some mishap in one of these small factories and people die or are seriously injured. last year a man was illegaly maufacturing fireworks in his home garage, something went wrong and the resultant explosion in the village core demolished three houses and two innocent persons died. it was like a scene from iraq. at least it galvanized the authorities to enact very harsh laws against ths dangeerous abuse.

Come back Guy Fawkes, all is forgiven, we need you like we have need you before! Have another go only this time please succeed.

So the do-gooders that have crucified everything and anything that this nation has ever done and achieved win again. Such as enjoying a private bonfire night on Nov 5th is to be also killed off as well. What a sad nation.
