hi all, im laura.
Im looking for any information about the best way to replace a stud ceiling in our stairway, the original one actually fell down about two years ago when my hubby was enlarging our loft trap.
It turns out the std ceiling was only held in by ONE screw in one wall and one nail in the other.
We would like to do it ourselves to save costs, but are uncertain on the best way to go about it.
Any ideas or suggestions would be gratefully received.
Thanks
replacement std ceiling for stairwell

Hi Laura,
This is not too difficult.
You can see how to do it here-
Plasterboarding a ceiling
It basically involves making a stud partition, like on this page-
partition wall building
It is a bit more difficult as it is high up and so you really need two people.
Make sure you cut the studs a mm or two longer than needed and knock them into place with a hammer for a really tight fit.
If you have solid walls then you can use screws and wall plugs to fix the timbers to the walls.
Wall plugs
To screw the timbers together then I would use
Turbogold screws
Any questions please ask?
