Thanks for a great forum guys and gals. I have read a lot of the threads and gained some valuable insight.

My question is this.

I have a terraced house, I obviously have condensation issues judging by what I have read but in the winter the front and back interior walls downstairs have a black stain like mould rising to approx 8ft by the windows. We have had double glazing fitted about four years ago but this still happens every winter. Is it condensation or rising, penetrating damp and any resolution - and cost.

As scruff has said a photo would be good, but condensation caused by bad airflow sounds the likely cause, Double glazing although very thermal efficient as opposed to traditional windows do play a major part in your problem, Firstly i would try and get the airflow circulating by leaving the windows on vent also do not dry clothes on radiators and make sure the bathroom windows are left open all the time, fit an extractor fan in the bathroom and try a dehumidifier for about 6 month's hopefully the walls will start to dry out
