Timber treatment for exterior use

Post by Monkey Wrench »

I'm building a timber framed shed and have used treated 4x2 and shiplap for the bulk of the work. There will be a few areas that require timber in sizes that I cannot find a ready treated alternative (eg the soffits and corners). I guess I just need to buy untreated and treat it myself (TIY?)

What's a good product for this?

Looking further ahead, I wouuld like to change the finish of the building. What type of finish can I apply to this pressure treated timber?

Thanks in advance.

Any Exterior Wood Preserver will do. I usually carry a 5l tin of clear and a 5l tin of brown. That covers most situations.

I wouldn't apply any finish to pressure treated timber purely because I wouldn't buy pressure treated timber if I was going to be treating it anyway.

I suppose you deal with it as you would untreated timber except you don't need to worry about preservative qualities of any stain you used. You would have to account for the colour inconsistencies of the pressure tretment.
