Nothing can beat my pile of shite called RAC Satnav! We had a wedding to go to about half an hour away from where we live. Being a wedding we obviously had to be there on time. We drove into the countryside and suddenly the little man inside my satnav shouted "you have arrived at your destination". So I slam on the brakes and peer into the darkness looking for the hotel. I spot a building in the distance, drive upto it and discover its the local golf club. Not the hotel we were wanting. So I carry on down the lane and it tells me its calculating my route. It then tells me to carry on down the lane. But a minute ago it was saying we had arrived. So giving it a second chance I weave on down the country roads following the directions. Eventually I end up back at the golf club!!! Now we are really late. So we ignore the voice and follow the signs and arrive ourselves! Absolute pile of DAZ!
On another trip we used it coming back from Ikea and it didnt recognise the M60 motorway! It showed us crossing water!
We rely too much on these crap satnavs - and should go back to the old fashioned way of reading a map. Even if I do read one upside down!

We refuse to buy one, would rather get the map out and check the route, right way up too!

I have Tom Tom installed on my phone- it is about the only good thing about my phone to be honest.

The Tom Tom is fantastic and has never let me down once.

The RAC satnav of Angies is a total pile of junk and is not worth having

I own up. I have a built-in SatNav in the car (which was a £1,800 option back in 2001) which packed up in 2007 and they wanted £500 to repair it so I brought a TomTom Go520. Brilliant it is (and much better than upside down maps).

I think that one has to have a basic understanding of where you are going in ones head rather than follow any SatNav blindly. Which someone did just down the road here... An elderly lady was being navigated to an address close by. She was following the verbal instructions to the letter. It announced "turn left now" so she did - straight into a lamp-post. The police prosecuted her.

This is Lancashire not Wales.

In a 20 mile raidus we have thousands of pubs/hotels and a handful of sheep.

In Wales you have a handful of pubs and thousands of sheep

Personally nothing would induce me to get Satnav. More from a safety point of view than anything else. I find it incredible that they are clamping down (quite rightly) on using mobile phones in cars yet you can have a big flashy screen on your dashboard, which is far more distracting.

If I'm ever going to some obscure location I just google the postcode (Ordnance Survey are brilliant for some of the out of the way farms I visit) and run a printout in case I need to stop and check.

First it was digital watches, then mobile phones, now its SatNavs that blokes talk about (very loudly) in pubs - you don't need them, get a map!
