infected files ??????

Morning all.
A while ago i asked how i could get files off my old hard drive which is infected with virus;s. and with good advice from this forum I managed to transfere my pictures files onto a usb memory stick.... Problem I have now is... I want to download these files onto my new hard drive but am worried these files my be infected, HOW CAN I CHECK as i dont want to put the virus on new hard drive....... you can just do a virus check of your usb stick
tell your virus prog to check that only
out of interest what virus prog are you running

hi foggy. how are u mate ?? its a trojan virus caused by opening a dodgy e-mail. I do what you advised with memory stick... cheers mate...

i take it you mean AVG
not sure whether AVG has the ability to scan a usb drive ,dont run it myself but i know you can scan specified folders so guess you can do it from there ?
oh and chances are the pictures wont be infected anyway ,it will be some other files on there ,autorun.ini is a favourite
just had a thought... if you go to each file you can right click on it and it will say something like "scan with AVG"

downloaded the files foggy. scaned and all ok.. thanks for your help. didn't think i would see these pics again and they are pics of my 9 yr old daughter taken over the last 3 yrs when i see her every 2 weeks.. so im well happy i have them back .. thanks

May I suggest you get the photo's onto a DVD as a back up asap.

You can get external; hard drives very cheap now, all are plug and play so just connect it to your USB port as you would a flash drive (USB stick) and your PC will reconize it instantly.
500GB Western Digital is about £55 on amazon. I find this good for backing up my picturers docs etc
AVG can virus check that also
