Sky

Post by IDontBelieveIt »

What is it with these guys that go round installing Sky?

They don't give a shyte what the place looks like, no consideration at all.

"I need to get a cable through this wall just here.." Out comes the SDS, loads of noise and mess, pulls though his cable, sticks on those God awful plastic rings (used to cover up the blown plaster and brick work) and that is that job done. Shame it looks like a pile of poo-poo with a cable dangling down the wall.

And when had done it before (as a considerate spark) I ran the TV cable to a back box discretely located as to be not on view. Could he use the same back box and Sat connector? No chance mate comes the reply - they really don't give a damn about the appearance all they want is to get the job done in the shortest possible time, get the loot and get out. I even had to clean up after the asshole.

Twits.

Too true. A Sky bloke strung the cable across the roof on top of the slates instead of putting it through the loft like I did later on. I'm upgrading to a recording box and have run another cable from the dish.
I started out with nothing, I still have most of it.

When the sky cable guy installed mine he told me a story. Don't know if it is true or not but wouldn't surprise me.

He said that he was working with a team in London when one of the guys drilled through the wall from the outside and heard this awful yelp. Turns out that there was a dog inside who heard the noise from the sds and went over to see, when the drill bit went right into the dog.
It may seem difficult at first! But everything is difficult at first.

Yeah that's another thing Weegie - why do they, and BT and most low level trades drill from inside out and blow the bricks away? I always drill through the mortar outside in - even if I have to then stop in the cavity to add a slight bend in the cable route?

And if that doggy story was meant be an excuse as to why they don't do anthing properly then the dog could just as well have been outside sniffing around to see what the noise was....

Nope the only reason can be "get the job done, get the loot and et out f there and stuff the quality of the job". Mind BT are the same with their dreaded staplers and what else are skirting boards for and architrave if it is not to support length of BT cable.

Totally agree.

Why do sky guys always put the cable in the middle of the outside wall :wtf: Why not put it behind the drain pipe then at least you can't see it. I mean its not rocket science.

Another thing about sky which gets right on my t..s is when I first got sky installed the guy said to me that my reception was poor due to trees. I asked if he could put it on my chimney. No way was the reply. Health and safety states that we aren't allowed to go above a certain height. I then pointed out that he had roof ladders on his van. There was no reply. I ended up getting an independent installer to put it on my chimney at a cost of £85 plus VAT :angryfire:

And here is a picture of the Sky 'engineers' master piece.

An MK 3G socket alongside an MK 1G Sat socket (both installed by me). I asked the prat to use the MK Sat socket - too busy mate comes the reply and look at his handy-work! A cable banged through the wall and dropping down to the work surface.

Very thoughtful of Sky -

the guy that did ours just drilled straight in from outside, cable then had to be tucked behind furniture
the intention was always to put cable under floor (accessable crawl space underneath) so thats what i did, there was vent just below cable hole so i used that, fitted a dual plate, made a patch lead & job done
he said he wasn't allowed under the floor but did leave me enough cable to do it myself
i love being married
it's great to find that one special person that you want to annoy for the rest of your life

I have a soft spot for the wife, it's a peat bog just outside Ardross

Agreed chaps/chapesses he has managed to completely mess up the appearance of the kitchen in one easy and careless step.

Sky will be hearing about but I will remove the cable and re-run it to that same 'F' MK socket because I would trust them to do anything.

The other joke was after he installed all the Sky+ and Sky boxes and connected it all up he said "where is thetelephone point?" So he was shown where it was - at the other end of the house in the hall a LONG way from Sky+ box!

He moaned and groaned and said "Ah well I will just have to clip the telephone cable al the way along the top of skirting boards and around architrave."

By this time the 'OH' was truly pissed off so she says "No you wont - what you will do is disconnect everything and arrange for Sky to come round and make good all the damaged brick work and I will get cable installed!"

A complete bunch of to$$sers the lot of them.

I have had a big issue with sky over the last week. I just got sky installed and the subcontractor charged me £70 for the installation. I had an argument with them in my flat as I signed up and have a letter saying it was free installation and free disk.

Contractor was saying that they have seperate charges and they sent me a letter (which they did to be fair) but my point is that I signed a c ontract with SKY, not the subcontractor

Am a bit cheesed off about this as I know I am in the right as my legal agreement is with SKY and what agreement they have with their subcontractors is not my business.

Problem is that I refused payment and they guy went with the sky box and uninstalled the cable! I ended up paying him to just get then thing done in teh end but am going around in circles to get a refund from sky

Trading Standards. They cannot legally advertise free installation and charge you one penny.

Problem is that you try phone sky and you end up with the 17 menus and sub menus and you just end up in circles. There is no number you can phone to discuss your case, you have to email or write to the head office
