I occasionally have use of my father in laws mini dv camcorder but have to rely on him to transfer the contents of the tapes to dvd for me. I am looking to add a fire wire card to my pc so i can do this myself. Has anyone any recommendations. i am after something that comes with basic video editing software and don't want to spend a fortune as it is only for occasional use.

Why not borrow the disc that came with the camcorder and install it on your computer, for free.

the typical firewire will come with editing s/w just like the typical cd-burner comes with burning s/w.
