hi guys, can anyone tell me if its possible to put tiles on top of tiles, originally my bathroom had the tiles put onto the bare render and was not plastered beforehand ,they still seem well stuck but would be murder to remove them all to the ceiling, they are a horrid green colour, that seemed in fashion back in the 70's, If they can not have new tiles stuck on top, what about painting the tiles over in 1 flat colour, would i need a special paint,or a special adhesive to stick tiles on top :help:  regards bill

Hi Bill and welcome,

You can tile on top of tiles, although it is often best to remove them.

To tile on existing tiles you need to clean the existing ones with sugar soap first and then just use normal tile adhesive. Try and make sure that the joints on the new tiles are not inline with the joints on the existing tiles.

It is of course essential that the existing tiles are fixed well and not loose.

Painting them is possible, but it often gives poor results.

as handyman says YOU CAN but its really not the best course of action, Why not hire a hammer (rotery stop) drill and have a blast removing the old tiles :toothy7:
alternatively if you do overtile then use somthing like BAL mosiac fix! :thumbright: as its cement based and grabs better than a ready mix.
