Post by apprenticejim »

Just seen this on the internet, its amazing, too bad about the price. Its a double external door by the way

How much you reckon you could build it for, e.g material, no labour charge and how long do you think it would it take you

Take a guess how much it would cost.

That would just be my cost for the labour. In reality I would normally add on the costs of site visits, drawings, travel to site, etc.

So yeah, all in I reckon I could build that for £2500-£3000.

Yep it goes for that price, type in kershaw doors in google and the site comes up. So that is a pretty good price then?

The styling looks very Indonesian in origin to me and I would want to be sure that the oak is properly seasoned. White Oak is grown quite quickly and it does not have the stability of the stuff grown here and in Europe with colder climates. Kiln drying tends encourage some warping so I would go and have a look at the door sets first.

The way the circular work is done looks really unatural to me. I would bet that when they say 'engineered white oak', many of the components are only 'oak veneered'.

In fact I'm pretty sure of it.
