draw your full sized rod[plan]
if you are buying preplaned order the stock size you want and add 20 to 30% [to cover spares as below]
if you are working your own timber just send/take your cutting list to the wood yard and sort it out from there making shure you have enough extra to cover an extra style and the biggest rail plus any panels
dont forget to allow for the horns and tennons in your cutting list

Multiply the width by the thickness and by the lengh in inch's of the
timbers required and then divide it by 1728 to give you the quantity in
cubic feet
Example
6'-6" x 2'-6" x 2" door with
2 no 4" x 2" styles = 13'-0"= 156" x 4" x 2" = cubic inch's 1248
1 no 4" x 2" head = 2'-6"= 30" X 4" X 2" = cubic inch's 240
1 no 8" x 2" bottom rail = 2'-6"= 30" X 8" X 2" = cubic inch's 480
1 no 8" x 2" middle rail = 2'-6"= 30" X 8" X 2" = cubic inch's 480
Total 2448
Divide by 1728 which is cubic inch's in a cubic foot
2448 divided by 1728 = 1.416 cubic feet
