Ok im not sure if my question should be in here or in the plastering forum...

1. Im building a false wall so that we can sink our tv back into the wall so that the screen of the TV is roughly flush with the wall. Then also i want to add some cut outs for the Sky box/ DVD player etc and also further along the wall i want to add some cut outs so we can put ornaments in etc with some lighting. My question is, how do i get these cut outs finished nicely? Do we put in a lining of some kind or is it plastered the same way the rest of the wall is done??
And if anyone knows where i can find some pictures of what im trying to achieve with the cut outs and Sunken TV.
Thanks,
Dan

Hi Dan,

Did the same thing for a customer just a matter of weeks ago now.

I built out the wall using 4x2 posts and covered it all with plasterboard, leaving the spaces for tv and ornaments etc.

I then made timber boxes in the workshop from mdf to fit inside the framework and finished off around the front of box and wall face with a timber facing.

The main tv box obviously had to have holes cut into it for sockets and satelllite cables etc

The other boxes for ornaments also had small low voltage down lights and glass shelves fitted.

You obviously have choices of doing it like this or to fully line into recess with plasterboard but i favour this way as the mdf boxes once painted were left with nice crisp lines to them unlike a wall reccess that has been plastered.

The remaining wall was finished by an ames tape finish and emulsioned.

Looked the b*llocks i must say!
