Snow

Post by Handy Angie »

Why is it we get a light sprinkling of snow and the country grinds to a halt? Ive had to walk 4.5 miles home, up and down hills as UHM was too "scared" to go out in his vanmobile in case he got snowed in. We are such a namby pamby nation! Instead I trapsed the long way home as to avoid the red light district of Montague Street in case I was tempted to stop and earn the money to fix my car! I nearly had my eye taken out on 3 seperate occasions from peoples overhanging brambles. If I have to do the walk again Im going make sure I take my pink sagatures (them pink scissor things) to chop as I walk. And the council grit the roads what about the pavements. I was slipping and sliding all over as it was starting to freeze. It was so dangerous! And do you know what the worst thing was? I only have 8 songs on my Iphone so they repeated and repeated and repeated ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh! :cb :cb

Driving on snow is a skill that drivers should learn. We get some fairly hefty snow conditions up here because we're 200m above sea level. It takes a good deal of snow to close the roads and we can't afford to stop driving every time there's a flurry so we just get out there and get on with it. I actually do more driving on snowy days than I do when it's clear because it means I can't get on with work on site so I take the opportunity to go and get supplies.

It did amaze me when I was down south last week and the roads snarled up with less than an inch of snow. The way some of the drivers reacted and panicked was simply ridiculous.

Ypu are so right. Chez rang me and said he just couldnt do it and turned round and drove back! He blamed rear wheel axis on his inability to go any further. Thats like blaming a dead punto on a red key! It just dont wash with me!! :-P

:-)

Actually, rear wheel drive on snow or ice is a real pain. You quite often find you're overtaking your own vehicle. It's best to take rear wheel drive vehicles to a car park, put Ravel's Bolero on, and try to keep it graceful.

Front wheel drive is better than rear in snow, but not as much fun as four!

What am I saying, rear is way better for fun

According to a recent survey on a website for statistical analysts only 17% of woman think they know what typifies a bloke and, interestingly, only 2% of them actually do.

It always makes me laugh when people can't drive in the snow.

I have had several rear wheel drive vehicles and they are useless.

I have been stuck many times and have had to just dump the car and walk in the past. When I had a front wheel drive fiesta I could get anywhere and I mean anywhere.

Yesterday I managed to drop my mate off in Hoddlesden, which is on a bad open road, which had not been gritted. It was only when we turned into the road to the village that Phil said that I best not go all the way as I would not get out again.

I turned around on an estate on the way in and the van got stuck, when he got out to push he was p*ssing himslef and said that my van is rear wheel drive

My old vito was front wheel drive.

It performed exceptionally well for a rear wheel drive and when I was returning up the road there was even a 4*4 turning around in the road as he obviously did not think he would make it either.

If the other half had her f*cking car it would not be a problem, but it has been stuck in the garage for almost three weeks due to her own f*cking stupidity. If only people would listen in the first place ::b

By the way I just used the excuse of snow not to see you and then I could get some work done on my computer seeing as I have been so busy driving someone all over the f*cking place for the last few weeks.

And I would not describe three inches of snow as a light sprinkling

In the old days all car were rear wheel drive and we had no problem when we lived in Cornwall, here between Southampton and Portsmouth we hardly get any 'real' snow.

My first FWD was a Cavalier in 1989, it just depends what you are used to!
