Barometers

Post by Stoday »

Nanny EU has decreed that you won't be able to buy an accurate barometer after October this year.

The accurate ones have a mercury column, sealed at the top, but at the bottom a tiny orifice opens to the atmosphere that is to be measured for pressure. You measure the height of the column from a pool of mercury in the base.

All you'll be able to buy will be the cheapo banjo style that don't use mercury.

Aneroid barometers are common place because mercury is expensive and has potential toxicity problems. A shame the EU can't mind its own business.
Failure means you just didn't get it right yet!

Hopefully in about 5 years British children will be saying "What was the EU Mummy/Daddy?"

Likewise, I have a proper good old barometer here and here it stays and it will be passed down the chain regardless of what the HSE, EU, Do-Gooders say or do. Mercury is toxic indeed.. so are politicians can we get rid of them as well?
