Internet Tax
Yes fellow Grumpies, the Government are considering taxing people who use the internet due to the amount of illegal downloads.
They are looking at £20 per Broadband customer.
What next taxing us for Wiping our Ar.es.

It may seem difficult at first! But everything is difficult at first.

Hold your horses. The article you linked to is misleading. The Telegraph article clearly states that this is only one of several solutions being proposed in the report to be put before Lord Carterfor review. It goes on to say ...
Lord Carter is known to be sympathetic to the proposals, but according to industry sources, he will stop short of explicitly backing the plan for fear of slowing his drive for universal broadband across the country by 2012

I don't refer to the guy as Lord. Nobody in the Government should be callled Lord.

Well didnt we know that would come (or rather they are looking at it)
Every home in the UK will be guaranteed access to broadband internet by 2012 under Government plans.
The Digital Britain report said everyone should have download speeds of up to two megabits per second - fast enough to watch video online - in time for the London Olympics.
The Prime Minister said digital technology would be as important to the nation's prosperity in the 21st economy as "roads, bridges, trains and electricity were in the 20th Century".
The report on the future of the internet and communications industries - which currently contribute s50 billion to the UK - also outlined plans to tackle online music and film piracy with a new rights agency.

Their plan:
as many as possible on BB,
make it difficult to do certain things without BB internet (all govt sites in flash or something equally crap)
then whack on the tax and introduce the "net tax escalator" (bit like the tories came up with the fuel tax escalator and labour clung onto it.)
bloody music company shill morons the lot of them

Geewizz,
"jozeffo,
Do you ever buy anything in a shop and expect only to pay the VAT? "
No and if you don't buy anything in a shop, do you expect to pay VAT on your lack of purchases?
I can be facetious if you like, or you can accept my point, which is that if the government can tax the activity, it legitimises it. When shoplifters steal stuff, do we all have to pay a tax to make up for Gordon's loss of VAT, or do we accept that most downloads would not be done if they weren't free and theerefore there is no loss of tax revenue.
