I'm looking for an Optimization program for XP. I've seen a few, but they all look the same.
Can anyone give me some guidance on which one to choose?

Most of them are just gimmicks. What do you want to achieve?

Not to achieve anything really. I don't know much about them, and just wondering if they would be beneficial to the smooth running of my PC.

Are they a waste of time and money?

I'm with RichieP on this one. Basic housekeeping of your system will keep it going.

Make sure your antivirus is up2date and running. Firewall's are useful - stops others from attacking your machine. Run anti-spyware (something like Ad-Aware) on a regular basis - there are mixed opinions on these on whether they actually do what it says on the tim or adds more stuff than it takes off. Personally, I use Ad-aware
Delete unwanted files. Running low on disc space plays havoc with Windows. Periodically run defrag to re-org the disc space so that all parts of a file are together.
Re-boot your machine. ::b

I'm sure there's other stuff that can be done but these are the basics.

All the usual security stuff is under control :-) I'm using the new virgin PC Guard, Spy bot S+D, scan and defrag regularly.

Thanks for your help guys.
