Tile edges

Post by DIY_DisasterMan »

Hi there,
I am wondering what the normal practise for using tile edging is. Do you use a spacer between the the tile and the edging strip or do you just fit the edging right up against the tile?

I leave a space between the edge of the tile and the extruded plastic corner strip, and fill it with grout later.
I started out with nothing, I still have most of it.

Trims are made in a variety of different thicknesses allowing you to seat the curved edge over the tile. Most tiles fixed to the edge of say a window reveal will be cut to fit & therefore it hides the cut edge nicely.

Bevelled edge tiles will need grouting into the trims as the sides thin down to the edges leaving a slight gap.

I say curved edge, but you can get square

The tiles will be on a toilet waste pipe that I have boxed in
Tiles are square edge and i was thinking of just sitting the trim right up against the tile so that the trim was flush with the tile edge with no space for a grout line as this would be my personal preference. Wasn't aware if should leave space for a grout line so that it gives a waterproof seal between tile and trim?

Could always silicone inside the curve of the trim, offer them up to the tile & wipe any excess that flows over

The silicone option sounds like a great idea. Thanks
