Mrs M wants a tile-topped plinth to go around the bath, under the rim. 4" x 2" CLS laid flat, lap joints at corners, with substantial supports under. As it won't get soaking wet, am I safe in sticking the tiles straight onto the timber, or should I use tilebacker board on top of the timber? I have built a similar plinth, using timber/MDF , and had no trouble with it over 15 years.

I wouldn't tile onto the timber mooncat, would go with the TBB just to be safe more than anything...although my old house had a tiled panel & 100mm plinth around the top, tiles were fixed onto standard PB & it had been in for around the same amount of time with no problems.

TBB just to be safe, not direct onto the timber as timber sucks in the moisture & will tiles will work there way loose eventually.
