Post by andy-p- »

Can i tile on a rendered bathroom wall using a primer in it first. The wall has no plaster on it, but its flat and in good condition, not sure what primer to use either
Thanks andy

Not 100% sure what you mean here :?

But you can render the wall and then tile it, use a mortar mix of 5 plastering sand to 1 cement by volume, you can add some plasticiser to make it easier to apply.

Then tile onto it, after it has dried out fully!

Check out the instructions for the adhesive that you are using, it will say what primer is needed (if any)

cheers uhm just to confirm what i mean

the customer pulled off the old tiles and the plaster came off as well leaving just the rendered wall, i told him i might be able to tile straight onto the rendered wall if i use the correct primer first, then he wouldn't need it skimmed.
I was thinking of using cerafix adhesive which just says use pva but most tilers dont use pva so not sure what to use
Thanks andy

If the adhesive manufacturer recommends PVA then I would use that.

The main place you need to watch for problems are areas that can become wet, such as shower enclosures etc. If you are tiling a shower then it may be best if you make sure the adhesive is ok to use in wet areas. If it is then use it and if it says prime with PVA then do that

If they fall off then contact the adhesive manufacturers and tell them that you followed their advice and would like compensation  Hopefully this won't happen!
