total sheet required 900x925 required
i told him for all the wood my time and trouble [a beer/cider]plus plastic it would be about £30 then find the plastic will be in excess of £40 on its own

You could try your local signmakers as they may have an off cut.
Probably one of the cheapest places to buy it is from perspex distribution-
http://www.perspexdistribution.co.uk/
They might sell unbranded sheet, which will be a little cheaper than buying a branded product.

I used to do a lot of acrylic work - selling on ebay etc. The sheet size i used was 5 & 6mm thick 4' x 8' and it cost me around £60.
That is too much acrylic and is possibly too thick for what you need. For framing i would suggest 3mm thick.
The place i got my acrylic from was a local acrylic (plastics) supplier that i found on yell.com - searching for acrylic suppliers in my area.
Any good supplier will give you an off-cut rather than have you needing to buy a whole sheet. £40 for your acrylic is well off the mark - i would expect half of that, but thats based on what i used to pay.
