hi,
i am wanting to put a small ahlogen light on the wall ouside my garage however i do not wish to have it hard wired in, i was thinkin of just putting a plug and 3 or 5 amp fuse, would this be ok? also if i got a light with the motion dectector on it would this mean i could leave the light plugged in all the time without any risks?
thanks

Hi,
Not a professional spark so treat the following with caution...
Amps = Watts / Volts
So your light will draw approx 0.7 amps which means it won't blow the fuse.
As for if it's a good idea just to use a plug socket - probably won't do any harm but it's a bit of a bodge
How will you get the cable inside?
Not through an open window I hope
If you are drilling through a wall make sure no water can get in the hole or run down the cable to the socket.
But if you wait a while an expert will come along and give you a proper answer.

thanks for the reply, i will be dilling a hole either through the brick work or door frame but i would make sure it is water tight with some kind of sealant

I always drill slightly uphill (waiting for the comments) to make sure water stays outside.
Good Luck..!

Not a problem with doin it that way , just get a smaller plug top fuse from somewhere like maplins they do 1 and 2 amp ratings. and if it is going to have the cable exposed get black flex as this is less susceptable to UV rays.
