Two Very Good ‘Back-Room Boys’.
SuperAntiSpyware (SAS) and Malwarebytes (MBAM) are two of the best free malware/spyware removal programs on the market (pun, because they are free).
It is recommended that both are installed on your computer for weekly scans and also because some Trojans will block any downloads once they are on your computer, thus preventing you getting either of these two installed to remove the Trojan.
It is best to have them installed and open each one to check for updates every couple of days and then run a quick scan once a week to maintain a clean computer.
How to do it:
Download SuperAntiSpyware (the free version) to your desktop and then double click the .exe icon to install it.
Then click Run and follow the Wizard.
Select English (US) as the language.
Let it check for updates.
Click to let it protect your IE Home page. This stops rogue software taking over your browser and redirecting you when you try to go onto the web.
Click Scan when it offers to scan your computer.
Select “Perform Quick Scan” -> Next
Quick scan time is about 7 - 9 minutes dependant upon how many Hard Drives and how many programs and files you have.
After the scan is completed,
Click Preferences
In the General & Startup Tab, untick ‘Start SAS when Windows starts’, as it does not offer realtime protection, you only want it to run when you update and run a scan.
Also untick the ‘Show SAS Icon in system tray’ That way, when you click to close the window it closes the program.
Note! The Realtime Protection and the Auto Updates are only in the ‘Paid-for’ version.
A good feature to look at is the Repair Tab.
This lists a lot of the repairs that SAS can try to carry out should Malware or Trojans cause parts of your system to fail or be taken over.
Having completed the installation and first scan, click Close on the main window and that will shut it down.
Next,
Download MalwareBytes' AntiMalware
Double-click ‘mbam-setup.exe’ and follow the prompts to install the program.
At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to the following:
o Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
o Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
Then click Finish.
If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
When completed, a log will open in Notepad.
That is both programs installed and ready for use.
To use each one: It is as simple as A B C
A) Double click the SAS Icon and click ‘Check for Updates’.
B) Once updates are installed click ‘Scan your Computer’
C) Select ‘Perform Quick Scan’ -> Next.
A) Double click the MBAM Icon -> Update Tab -> Check for updates.
B) Once updates are installed click ‘Scanner Tab’
C) Select ‘Quick Scan’ -> Scan. (Scan time is about 4 minutes)
Suggestion!
Check for updates every couple of days so you are ready for anything that gets past your security.
Run Scans weekly but on different days. (One Wednesday and one Saturday, or when best for you.)
