Nasty job in the bathroom

Post by DraWho »

Hi guys,

I am wanting to get a professional tiler in as I want a job well done but basically I want to make sure I am in the right track (and not going to get ripped off for being a girl). I have vinyl floor tiles which are coming unstuck because of humidity. It was laid by the previous owners of the flat and they did a nasty job, filling with caulk as applyances were not removed.

Underneath there is a nasty grey vinyl flooring and under this layer cement.

My idea is to get a tiler in to strip all the vinyl nasties and tile the floor, removing appliances to do it properly since we are at it (toilet and sink).

My question is: how long can this take (I am hoping for one day) and does he need to lay another layer between cement and tiles? And how much is it reasonable to pay. My bathroom is about 3 m. long 1.5 m. wide.

hi,
depending upon the suitability of the substrate after stripping, it may need some self levelling if if was bitumen based vinyl tiles, you have approx 4.5 sq.metres which tiling only will be 30.+ per sq.metre, or daywork approx 180.00 + materials, then removing w.c / basin is extra, if self levelling is required then you may have to pay an extra 1/2 day as it requires drying time. hope that helps
