Moving Master Socket
Hi, this is my first post here
I have a BT master socket for PlusNet phone & broadband
I need to move the socket. This will shorten the cable. I could simply coil up the excess, but unfortunately I need to take it back though an internal wall. If I note the colours and disconnect / reconect, am I going to screw up the broadband connection?

There is not an option for that in the control panel. It just restrics the use of the pm system until a set amount of posts have been made. I can't disable it on a member by member basis either.dave.m wrote:Cheers for that, Chez.People can't send or receive messages until they have made 5 posts
I thouight it was just sending that was restricted.

in relation to the question,
1) all information below is given as HYPOTHETICAL THEORY ONLY and in no way condones or suggests any actions which could be construed as breach of contract and / or illegal in any way shape or form.
2) any information given below is NOT to be actioned by anyone.
Disclaimer over.
Bearing in mind the above
as long as you don't touch the wires together you will be fine. note which terminals are which, carefully disconnect using an insulated screwdriver, and move into its new position.
If you have an internal junction box another option is to replace the wiring from the junction box to the master socket with solid core Cat 5 / 5e ethernet cable (higher quality than phone extension cable) has to be solid core though, not stranded core.
Remember there is 50V travelling down the line and if you short the wires then it might cause some issues at the exchange and BT will come breathing down your neck.
