I always thought Screwfix was one of the cheapest around but I have seen more and more better value items on toolstation. I was looking for electrical screws. I see toolstation sell 100 for £2.61 whereas screwfix is 10 for a 90p

Problem is I only need 4 and would prefer the steel look rather than the usual shiny type look

Although they don't carry as much variety as screwfix, Toolstation are cheaper, i actually prefer Toolstation to screwfix

Whys that leebwk?

One thing I dislike about screwfix is that they seem to stock a lot of cheaper brands.

I was ideally looking for better quality metal switches but the only do those volex ones. They are not bad but the ones in B&Q / Wickes look better but cost much more though.

I don't know John, but if you look through there catalogue and through screwfix everything comparable is cheaper.
We are lucky in Oxford as there is a screwfix counter and toolstation counter 100 yards apart.
I have been building an extension for a mate of mine and last week he had to buy a load of drainage screwfix £228 and exactly the same from toolstation £167

on average toolstation is around 10 to 20% cheaper
although on average off simmilar quality i belive the toolstation stuff at the lower end has been made to a price and not a quality

like shopping at lidls you try everything once and the 10% you dont like you either upgrade or buy else where

Whatwebsite is good for better quality products?

Its false economy buying cheap stuff, as you end up breaking the cheap tool and then go out and buy a better quality. So really should have bought the good one in the first place

I have done this a lot of times. Bought a stapler from homebase last week, I would have been better with an office stapler, staples get stuck in it, no power etc.

The forge steel range on screwfix is poor too. Handles came off pliers, snapped head of screwdrivers etc Bought a Bahco pliers, far superior

Am not buying any more cheapo tools unless its really justified. The Titan 6KG SDS drill was a great purchase, more than paid for itself by now.

One thing I like about Toolstation is that you can look at stock in local store, and complete order for pick up.

Or order online for next day (mostly) deliver for orders over a tenner.

As said before their Silverline range is cheap but if you only want to use the tool once so be it, you know what you're buying.
