IE is notorious for bugs and un-reliability.

Firefox is 10 x better.

The latest Firefox is still better than the 'latest, improved IE'

Terry,
The figures speak for themselves.

About 70% of browsers in general use are versions 6, 7 or 8 of IE.
This means that most attacks of viruses and fraud attempts are written and aimed at IE, because there is a much better chance of a 'hit'.

Firefox is 'Open Source' software which means that it is written and updated free by thousands of volunteers, which keeps it ahead of virus attacks mainly, because any trace of attack is brought to the volunteers attention quickly.

Use the latest version Firefox with a couple of Addons to suit your own requirements and you will be safer than using IE.

Consider trying Opera too. I converted to Firefox and found it much better than I.E. but there were quite a few things that I needed to launch I.E. for because Firefox had it's limitations. After moving to Opera I haven't needed I.E or Firefox.

Firefox! But watch out installing too many add-ons as they may use quite a lot fo memory.
I personally use IE only for windows updates and even on their (Microsoft) site I gives me troubles...
I did use crome some time ago, if you're not after funky function do consider it, it's fast!

I used IE like everyone else for years as it comes with Windows, but as it lacked certain features I liked on other browsers (I'm and ex-Acorn / RISCOS user), I tried Firefox - now I wouldn't be without it and have installed it on my wifes PC too and she loves it.

Also it's far more secure and has an Add-On for anything you can think of. My fav addons are:

* - Dafzilla - ViewSource (the html code of a webpage).
* - DownloadHelper - download videos / mp3 with a single click from a button.
* - RealPlayer Browser Plugin - Does what it says on the tin.
* - SortPlaces - Sorts your Bookmarks alphabetically (like IE).
* - TweakNetworks - Speedup surfing / downloads etc.
* - XMarks - Bookmark synching (can store your bookmarks online and access from anywhere).

I switched from IE to Firefox, which I definitely preferred, but then discovered Google Chrome, which has now become my first choice of browser.

Everyone raves about firefox, but it just causes problems for me.

The latest one is when I try and access yahoo.com

I get the AVG resident sheild stopping the page from loading-

Danger: AVG Search-Shield has detected active threats on this page and has blocked access for your protection.

The page you are trying to access has been identified as a known exploit, phishing, or social engineering web site and therefore has been blocked for your safety. Without protection, such as that in the AVG Security Toolbar and AVG, your computer is at risk of being compromised, corrupted or having your identity stolen. Please follow one of the suggestions below to continue.

I can access the page with IE, no problem at all.

Might give chrome a try :wink:

I was very happy with Firefox at first, but more and more often I got a message saying that Firefox had encountered a problem and had to close. So, switched to Google Chrome since which time I have had no problem.

Now how about that for tempting Providence?

I use firefox for my main browsing. I dont like google chrome due to its privacy issues and find SWR Iron much better in that respect. I have on my system Opera which I use occasionally and QtWeb which is brilliant which is my second browser of choice.

In firefox I have

NoScript
Adblock Plus
Ghostery
TACO
Track Me Not
Better Privacy
WhoIs
WOT
XMarks
Long URL Please
Tab Mix Plus
Malware Search
ScreenGrab

To name a few. Never had any major problems

@UHM

Sounds like an AVG problem to me. Avira all the way!
