Peugeot 406 clutch.

Post by Agile »

I have had several older 405/406s and many have needed new clutches because they were slipping.

Never on any other car that I have owned.

I take them to the main dealers who replace them and they work fine after that although all the last three all had other seriously annoying aspects of their service.

Same problem on current one which has done only 94k miles.

Does anyone know what causes them to slip on this model?
Its not oil seals leaking as no oil is coming out of the bottom of the housing. This car uses hardly any oil.

It's probably a design fault. Certain cars and vans have certain common faults.

I phoned a garage a few months back to get a price for a new sump for a car as the old one had rusted through, immediately the garage owner said "is it a fiat punto", he knew what car it was for, although he has only ever seen my van.

I have owner lots of different cars!

The only clutches I have ever had to replace have been on 405/406s, including the current failure thats FOUR Peugeots!

This model is one of the most reliable cars ever made.

Remember the earlier 404 ? They were the taxis in most of the European cities.
