I am tiling bathroom floor, at the moment have new boards down and wondered if i can tile straight onto them or do i need to treat them with anything first (no funny answers on that)

you can normally tile straight onto boards as long as they are secure and the correct adhesive is used.

Ply on the floor is fine infact its perfect for floors as it stops any movement due to its construction.
Its use on the floor is totally diff to the way you suggested using it on the walls
hell given the construction of modern houses and internal walls you would have to replace all the walls in some rooms on your suggestion of using ply.

Ply is ply, it gives strength to whatever you tile, whether it's on the wall or the floor.
If I build a shower cubical and ply the walls it 100x stronger than plasterboard, and invariably it's spec't by the architect anyway

only thing i would worry about with ply on the walls is its going to expand and contract a lot more than p/board.

hi bgatty
ok i would prime ur floor first with bal sbr.
then thinset rapidset FLEX addy on the floor..6mm notched trowel.
lay 6mm backerboards, screw then down as well 12mm backer screws,
lay them staggered with 2/3mm gap between them.
then before tile fixing put a fiba tape over gaps an smooth over with rapidset flex addy
then tile away.imo halfmoon notched trowel.
for grout bal superwide joint flex.
u will be able to purchase all of the above from a good tile retail shop mate.
u could also use spf addy but u will have to wait longer before grouting.
before all of above lay ur b/boards dry so u can get them cut to size.
